Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT)

STRENGTHS: are internal resources and capabilities

a)     Entry qualifications of students: Students admitted with an average academic track record of averages of B- (330 marks)

b)    Teaching and learning materials to students are to the average ratio of 1:3

c)     Teaching and learning materials to teachers are to the average ratio of 1:1

d)    High level of response by the administration on meeting requests made concerning academic issues through immediate initiation of the implementation procedures

e)     Intensive teacher student academic interaction of a minimum of 4 extra hours per class every week

f)      Frequent periodic academic evaluation tests of a minimum of 2 sits in exams per term.

g)     Existence of periodic academic consultation clinics: Once per class every year and twice for form fours involving teachers, parents, students, and other resource persons

h)    Incorporating the academic evaluation results in the execution of the curriculum and setting strategies and targets for the following period. The school had set a target mean score of 8.9 for the year 2012

i)       High level of motivation and support to staff and students in the pursuit of the academic excellence.

j)     Supportive BOG and PTA executive that act as a source of motivation, pursuit to development programs and enhancement of academic achievements.

 

WEAKNESS: are internal deficiencies in resources and capabilities

a)     Insufficient facilities and amenities to accommodate the ever increasing student population as the school has three streams with an average number of 50 students per class. While the recommended ratio of teacher: students is 1:40-45

b)    There has been low level of enforcement of school policies and procedures in fee payments and other procedural regulations which has led to high level of laxity among key stakeholders

c)     Low level of public relation within and without that affects the public image hence impacting negatively to overall school performance.

e)      Low level of interpersonal relationship and mutual respect that affects the school output and utilization of the resources.

f)    Low level of inculcating the Sponsor’s religious values that promotes spiritual maturity and appreciation of God’s supremacy in the school’s life

i)       Total lack of supportive technology (IT) based learning for effective knowledge transfer and management of resources.

OPPORTUNITIES: are external factors and situations that can affect the school favorably

a)     The school has the opportunity of extending its catchment scope and entry points that will enhance its performance.

b)     Due to high level of performance, the school easily gets attention from the Ministry of Education, Teachers Service Commission and other regulators related with education

e)    Conceptualizing and attracting school exchange program to broaden the scope of experience and performance.

 

THREATS: are external factors and situations that affect the school negatively

a)     High flying schools within the region are competitively reducing the resource allocation to the school from donors.

These schools are not only consistent in discipline matters but are also excellent performers with stable and focused leadership.

b)    Direct rivalry by the schools within the region that regularly constitute the top 10 performers

c)     The economic hardships that directly affect the parents impact negatively on the school’s financial obligation and students’ recruitment

d)     Availability and affordability of the electronic communication devices, print and electronic media are constantly abused to challenge the discipline management and encourage malpractices among students

e)      The threat of HIV & AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections
