Discipline Deputy Principal

Nkuene Girls’ high school maintains high standards of discipline both personal and academic.

The school has a discipline committee constitutes of the Principal, the Deputy Principal and two other teachers working in tandem with all members of the teaching staff.

The school does not entertain idlers. In fact school rule numbers 15 stipulates that all students are expected to pass all the exams given by the school. This is in line with our school mission i.e. to provide quality education and inculcate moral values for sustaina

 

ble societal development. From the year 2011 Nkuene Girls has kept the trophy for the most disciplined school in the district.

 

THE CHRISTIAN UNION: TEACHER FRIDAH

Christian union movement has continued developing as the numbers increase tremendously.

The objectives of the movement is to:

  Impact knowledge about God thus producing God-fearing students, who believe with God all things are possible.

Producing Christians well equipped with life skills like critical thinking and creative thinking so as to fit in the dynamic job market.

Impacting knowledge on how to relate with different people and life difficulties, by being humble whenever possible.

Among our greatest achievements is holding of weekend challenges and several rallies during which we invite other schools. Also during our school programme we have movement on Friday whereby we participate in Bible Study.

Other activities are as follows: praise and worship whereby we train students to praise, offering that helps us to develop by buying more music instruments, and helping the needy.

We have been able to invite several speakers and renowned gospel singers to minister to the members. This has motivated us to have a C.U choir and motivation writing sessions whereby we are looking ahead to reach many; God has to get us to our destination. 

 

RED CROSS

Affiliated to Meru Red Cross under the auspices of Red Cross organization Kenyan chapter.

The Red Cross Society in Nkuene is a large family. It all entails hospitality and socialism the Red Cross members are 140 in number. The main aim of Red Cross society is to help students who are not feeling well to offer general first aid.

The Red Cross Society participates in activities like cleaning the school compound, the hospitals around the school and the markets. Our motto is ‘together we build’.

Debating club Mr.Gatobu-Patron

The club is an affiliate of the languages department in the school. It is meant to assist in development of language skills especially spoken English. The club was started in the year 2004 and currently has a membership of around 70 students. In the past, the members have attended debating contest with schools like Kaaga Boys, Kibirichia, Buurieruri e.t.c. The members have also visited the Kenya Parliament.

 

Games & Sports.Mr. Mutwiri - Patron

The school recognizes the importance of games and sports for competitive reasons and also physical fitness. It participates in games like; football, volleyball, basket ball, netball, racket games, athletics and handball. It is in the process of starting hockey. There are also aerobic exercises for physical fitness.

 

 

Geography club Mr.Mwenda- Patron

This is a subject afflicted club. Started in 2009, the club has continued to grow in strength with the current membership standing at about 50. The members include geographers and non geographers.

The club was started with the sole objective of enabling members to interact better with the environment which remains the geographers’ fundamental source of information. The club’s vision reads; "To be the leading club in environmental friendliness".

The club has been involved in many activities within and outside the school environment. In the former, the members have been active in environmental conservation activities as well as presenting various physical and human aspects in simpler and accessible models for prosperity. The outdoor activities which include excursions and trips have reduced class and school monotony and bringing enjoyment and pleasure.

In the near future, the club aspires to be part and parcel of community empowerment where the members shall be involved in community based activities. LIVE LONG GEOGRAPHY CLUB.

 

 NKUENE GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL WILDLIFE CLUB

OBJECTIVES  Mr. Mburugu- Patron.

  1. To spread interest and knowledge about wildlife and the environment among the people around the school in particular and Imenti South District in general.
  1. In this way, to make them aware of the great economic, cultural and aesthetic value of natural resources.
  1. To develop a better understanding of the need to conserve natural resources for the benefit of the nation and its people.

 

Hamjambo. – Wildlife club members;

As we come to the end of the year 2013, I hope that you are aware of the importance of biodiversity and the need to behave more responsibility on earth, it is the only planet we have to live on-in other words – our only home.

We destroy our biodiversity-we destroy our home – it’s that simple.
NB: Mankind is the worst enemy of the environment.

So we hope that you youngsters are going to be future ‘green’ advocates in whatever you do –even if you become industrialists because the future of technology is green.

THE YCS SOCIETY MS. NYAGA & MR. KIMATHI

We have focused on developing and strengthening the spread of the WORD OF God to the young and nurture spirituality in today’s youth despite the social or economic background.

We have held weekend challenges and attended several rallies.

CHAMA CHA KISWAHILI - MR. KIMATHI

We have taken it as our responsibility to encourage students to speak Kiswahili on specific days in school i.e. on Thursday, Friday Saturday and Sunday. It is our desire that the positive minded student will by the end of the year has improved their communication skills vocabulary in the language through their own efforts. We encourage the students to use their talents like writing poetry and theatre performance in Kiswahili to improve on their skills.

 

GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING DEPARTMENT – MRS. CATHERINE MATAGU

Guidance and counseling department deals with assisting students on various issues. We also co-ordinate prayers in the school at every beginning and end of term and just before the start of national examination.

We have an affiliate club KARPH (Kenya Adolescent reproductive Health club) which assists in improving the health of students in our school.

Our main activities include;

  • Individual and group counseling of students
  • Discussion of topics depending on current needs of students
  • Carrying out thematic games with students to demonstrate life skills like teamwork, tolerance, humility and honesty among others.
  • Conducting family days for all students with teachers being the family heads.
  •  

YOUNG FARMERS CLUB – MRS. CATHERINE W.K. MATAGU

Being an agriculture teacher, we work very closely with the agriculture students in young farmers club. Some of the activities include the following

  • Involvement in agricultural projects at the club level
  • Participation in young farmers club annual rallies
  • Involvement in workshops and seminars related to agriculture
  • Participation in exhibitions and competitions at A.S.K  (Agricultural society of Kenya) shows
  • Participating in National tree planting activities.

BIOLOGY CLUB – MR. NJIRU

The biology club works to promote and organize variety activities that pertain to biology. The club objective is to promote and foster better performance in the biology as a subject.

The club has a membership of 60 students. The club activities have created a positive attitude towards biology and have resulted to great improvement in the performance of the subject.

 

SCOUTING MOVEMENT – MRS. BEATRICE NJERU

 Bravo! Scouting movement is a movement intended to help in holistic development of a leaner. It is based on self discipline which is cultivated by the motto ‘ALWAYS BE PREPARED’. The movement has a large following in the activities Mounting guard of honours for various guests who visit our school, hiking, camping in which we interact with the nature, flag hoisting and scouting for solutions. We also are keen on character development which is the core purpose of scouting, cemented by principles of scouting – duty to God, duty to others and duty to self. New recruits always get training on different stages of scouting in order to earn badges.  

 

HEALTH CLUB – MRS. BEATRICE NJERU

Health club is an affiliate of guidance and counseling department. It started as Kenya Adolescent Reproductive Health Programme (KARHP),at the time, we had partnered with APHIA II Eastern. The name changed for the purpose of incorporating eight thematic areas which are in the Kenya comprehensive school Health Scheme – a Ministry programme for secondary schools, Currently, we are partners with APHIA PLUS KAMILI.

The club has greatly improved the health status of the school community and has also helped in character development because of life skills and values which have been made easier through thematic games challenges which we engage in from time to time.

Personal issues are also addressed through the service of a Question Box. The questions also help us to address relevant issues of the students. The club members are peer educators with exemplary behavior chosen from different classes. We encourage everyone to strive to be healthy through our theme, ‘ My Health, My responsibility’.

JOURNALISM CLUB – PATRON MR. S. GATOBU

The club started in 2001 to promote and develop writing and speaking skills. The club activities include writing articles, poems, debating, fast reading, news casting and host seating among others. It assists the students to discover, develop and nurture abilities, talents and skills in mass communication. The club has succeeded in publishing a magazine called, ‘The spectrum.’ In it one will find a variety of articles cartoons, poems and the popular column of Mchongoano. A number of the club members who complete their four year course successfully have either enrolled or completed their courses in mass communication. We plan to purchase more equipment necessary for journalism such a cameras, computers and link up with both print and electronic media houses to gain practical skills.

 

DRAMA & MUSIC CLUB – MR. S. GATOBU

Members of this club make up the school team during drama festival at various levels. It is made up of members interested in discovering their talents in theatre art by acting in plays, dances, verses and narratives. They must show ability to balance their efforts in academic work and co-curricular activities without compromising any.

In addition, the students are expected to behave themselves. The club succeeded in 2010 to participate in National Drama Festival held in Kisumu at Kisumu Pentecostal Church. We look forward to continuing with discovering, developing and maturing talents in drama.

In music, the club has for several years been participating in National Music Festival and some of the English and Kiswahili own composed poems are recorded by K.I.E studio. In 2005, one of the students got position 3 in own composed Kiswahili solo verse. Her name was Miriam Thuranira. To her, I say kudos. More and more students can come forward and showcase their abilities.
